The contest was set up to encourage and support the independent pizza sector and to encourage new ideas and innovation.
Whether the pizzeria is a stand-alone restaurant, takeaway, part of a hotel, suburban outlet or in a trendy part of town – the competition is open to all individual pizza makers who care about their product.

All pizzerias are invited to send in their recipes.
A nominal entry fee is required to be paid by each contestant. Refer to the online entry form for further details.
The recipes are then assessed by an internationally recognised chef for originality, balance, creativity and excitement factor.
All qualifying finalists are invited to attend the final, where they will be required to cook 4 pizzas in any of the following categories:
- Beef + Lamb
- Chicken
- Other Meat
- Seafood
- Vegetarian
- Specialty or dessert.
One contestant will be chosen as the New Zealand winner of the Global Pizza Challenge.

Each Finalist will receive a Certificate of Participation for each completed judged entry.
